Miller Goodman Playshapes

Amazing finds during my NYC trip last week, especially at the MOMA design store. My favorite product was this beautiful box set of 74 geometric wooden blocks made by Miller Goodman, English designers Zoe Miller and David Goodman. These shapes can be combined to create endless possibilities of faces, animals, nature, cars, basically anything you can imagination can conjure up! Watch their awesome animation for ideas....

Orbit's Sidekick Stroller Board

Orbit Baby does it again... introducing their new ride along Sidekick Stroller Board attachment to their current strollers. Their innovative strollers, if you can afford them, are fun, convenient and now truly grow with your family size. You can even attach two boards at one time and the boards flip up and out of the way when you're not using them. If you don't have an Orbit stroller or $870 laying around, you can always get your growing kid some Heelys instead!

Takashi Murakami - Macy’s Parade

Kaikai and Kiki, characters created by Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami, are the newest addition to this years Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, reports the NYTimes. The larger than life balloons are in the making and are estimated to to be forty feet long and three stories high. Stay tuned... Nov 25th! Here are some photos of the cute guys during the design process:

Iggy Peck and Follow the Line

This book is amazing: Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty and Illustrated by David Roberts. I love the detailed illustrations down to the children's hairstyles and textured socks (I mean check out the pattern on Iggy's Nordic sweater in the photo above). The story and witty rhyming makes this the perfect book for your little one. I picked this up for my nephew and he loved it (although I think his dad loves it even more)! Follow the determination of creative young architect, Iggy Peck as he accomplishes his dreams despite his disagreeing teacher that tries to stand in his way. Iggy Peck will inspire kids and spark their appreciation for architecture. You definitely won't get tired of reading this bedtime story.

Also, check out Follow the Line by Swedish illustrator Laura Ljungkvist.  The concept of this book is simple - follow the line starting from the cover through city and country, building counting and vocab skills by solving riddles along the way. The graphics are clear and clever and the charming colors give the illustrations a fifties retro feel. She has turned this book into a series with Follow the Line Around the World and Follow the Line Around the House. Can't wait to check them out!

Silly Bandz

Newest kid craze: Silly bandz... cute silicone die molded bands in endless shapes worn as bracelets on kids everywhere. They've even made a music video about it!

At $5 for a pack of 24, creator Robert Croak says business has grown ten times in the last six months. The original animal bands were used as office supplies. The Japanese creators have been recognized with national design awards and the bands were being sold in limited quantities at the Museum of Modern Art Store. Following its predecessors of Beanie Babies and Pokemon cards, Silly Bandz has been transformed by Croak into this year's must have collectible accessory item for kids.
