The National Stationery Show, NYC
May 21-23, 2012

With the onslaught of e-mail, e-cards, texting - one would think paper was just a pastime, unless you happened to arrive at the National Stationery Show! Luckily, I heard about the show in time to check it out because the vendors were Amazing! From greeting cards, wrapping paper, calendars and gifts - the colors and creative energy was vibrant throughout the Javits Center. I also met lots of first time vendors with gorgeous booths and product. From the feel of the show, the stationery industry still seems to be vibrant and growing - especially in NYC!

Moonrise Kingdom

Kind of obsessed right now with Wes Anderson's newest movie, Moonrise Kingdom. The cast is filled with adorable and quirky kids with amazing acting skills and our favorites like Ed Norton, Bill Murray and Bruce Willis. You will easily fall in love with the two twelve year old outcasts, who after several pen pal letters to each other, decide to run away together. Anderson's colorful Norman Rockwell inspired scenes are perfectly styled and his long shots give the audience a fun visual treat, a nice break from the typical quick action shots.

I think this excerpt from a Wes Anderson Interview sums up the message of the movie:

Do you think children have a certain wisdom that is somehow lost as they get older?
Well, I think they have — or often have — a certain clarity. They often know what they want. They don't have wisdom, but have a purity with how they express themselves and how they proceed that can be an advantage — a big advantage. In Moonrise Kingdom, they're not really making great decisions but they do know what they want. And for all the adults around them, it's much more murky territory.
I think sometimes having wisdom makes things more confusing. If you start to say, "I can picture what the other guy feels about this," and then you might say, "Man, I’m not so sure if I’m right. And do I want what I want and how am I going to feel when this happens?" In the past I’ve been through this, and kids aren’t thinking like that. These kids, I don’t think they have given much thought to what their next step will be. They know the one step they’re going to take now, but they don’t really necessarily know the two steps.

Kira Mini Photobooth x SJ Made

THANKS to all the kids that participated in our first ever mini photo booth at SJ Made! The photos were a blast and we definitely felt the love for all the mamas (sorry dads, "i got it from my mama" was the most popular sign)! We had a fun filled day meeting lots of new people in the exciting San Pedro Market in downtown San Jose. Hope everyone enjoyed some yummy food, cold drinks, lots of shopping and was able to stay cool from the heat!!
